Optimal design of cyclones in series for the separation of multicomponent mixtures of Portland cement

A nonlinear programming problem was developed for the separation and classification of Portland cement particles into different fractions through optimal design two cyclones classifier in series. The equations restrictions considered included global mass balances, geometric cyclones, efficiency calculation, operating limitations process pressure drops equipment. results show that an increase on cut size led to a greater dimensions cyclone, as expected. Moreover, fractional efficiencies obtained with reduction size. solids load effect is also evaluated, reductions feed by 50% its maximum value does not result remarkably decrease values. proposed model has provided useful information constitutes starting point better understanding overall multi-component mixtures. It valuable tool correct this type separators, given versatility optimize under conditions materials.
